New Delhi, June 24: The Madhya Pradesh Premier League (MPL) is nearing its final stages. Fast bowler Avesh Khan, currently out of the Indian team, is part of the Chambal Gharial team, which has performed well this season and is at the top of the table. Avesh emphasized that success in cricket is not solely determined by talent.
In an exclusive interview, Avesh stated that the key difference among players lies in their ability to continuously improve. While talent is common, how a cricketer enhances their skills consistently is far more crucial. Talent can be fleeting, but success comes from persistent effort across all aspects of the game. Players must continuously work on fitness, bowling, batting, mindset, and skills.
Avesh shared, “I regularly convey this message to young cricketers around me, especially in tournaments like the MPL, where many emerging players hope to catch the attention of IPL scouts and state selectors. I also tell my teammates that while talent is present in everyone, how you utilize it and learn from mistakes is vital.”
He noted that a significant challenge for young players is relying solely on their talent without addressing their weaknesses. They should strive to convert their talent into results.
Avesh believes that the MPL is an essential platform for cricketers looking to advance their careers. He enjoys playing in the MPL, which features ten teams, with no team appearing weak. All teams are competitive, making it feel like a mini IPL. The competitive nature of the league helps players prepare for greater challenges ahead. They are playing at their home ground in Indore, creating an atmosphere of excitement as they compete against their own players.
He added that the MPL is beneficial for cricket in Madhya Pradesh. This tournament boosts the confidence of players aspiring to make a mark in the IPL, Ranji Trophy, or Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Avesh credited the success of the Chambal Gharial team to all its players. He stated that the most important aspect for them is having different match-winners in every game. They do not rely on a single player and are performing well as a cohesive team.
Avesh hopes that the pressure of their success in the league stage does not weigh down the Chambal Gharial players in upcoming matches. He mentioned that they will treat the semifinals as just another match and will discuss it among themselves. While there is some pressure during matches, their team has managed it well so far.
The Chambal Gharial women’s team has already won the MPL title this season. Avesh remarked that the men’s team does not feel burdened by that achievement. Their goal is to play good cricket. They will strive to win but will not impose pressure on themselves just because the women’s team succeeded. They aim to play to their full potential and attempt to secure victory.
