Ujjain, July 2: A woman was reportedly attacked in a village in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh. Police have arrested three suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend eight others.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on June 30 in the Arnia Vena village of the Jharada police station area. A case has been registered against 11 individuals, including three women, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The victim stated that on June 30, around 9 AM, she was in her in-laws’ room when Sumer Singh, Kachru Singh, Badri Lal, and several others allegedly broke down the door and entered her home. They reportedly dragged her outside by her hair and arms, where other family members, including three women, were present.
The woman alleged that the assailants cut her hair, tore her clothes, and paraded her around the village wearing a garland made of shoes and slippers. She claimed that she was left in a semi-nude state during the incident, and her husband was also reportedly assaulted.
According to police, the woman further alleged that both she and her husband were beaten and threatened with death. The police reported that she sustained injuries to her eye, cheek, head, and abdomen, while her husband suffered injuries to his face, chest, and abdomen.
During the investigation, police discovered that the woman had previously been married in the same village. In 2023, she divorced her first husband and married another local man, after which the couple settled in Indore.
The woman had returned to her in-laws’ house on June 30 to demand her share of the family property. A dispute over this issue reportedly escalated into violence.
Anand Bhabor, the officer in charge of the Jharada police station, confirmed that the three accused—Sumer Singh, Kachru Singh, and Badri Lal—have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Police teams are actively searching for the remaining suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
