Guwahati, May 14: Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya has approved the allocation of departments to the new members of the council of ministers under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership. An official notification was released from Lok Bhavan regarding this matter on Thursday.
Chief Minister Sarma had submitted a proposal to the Governor concerning the distribution of responsibilities among the ministers. Following this, the Governor accepted the proposal and granted approval for the allocation of departments to the new ministers.
According to the notification, senior BJP leader Rameshwar Teli has been assigned the departments of Transformation and Development, Labor Welfare, and Tea Tribes and Tribal Welfare. The inclusion of Tea Tribes and Tribal Welfare in Teli’s portfolio is considered significant, as the government continues to focus on welfare initiatives for tea garden communities across Assam.
Atul Bora, president of the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), has been entrusted with the departments of Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of the Assam Accord, Border Security and Development, and Excise. Political analysts regard these departments as crucial, given the government’s emphasis on securing border areas and implementing the provisions of the historic Assam Accord.
Meanwhile, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Charan Boro has been given charge of the Transport Department along with responsibilities for Bodoland Welfare. This allocation is expected to strengthen developmental coordination in the Bodoland region and improve transportation infrastructure in the state.
Senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog has been assigned the departments of Women and Child Development and Tourism. Officials stated that these departments will play a vital role in expanding tourism potential and enhancing social welfare programs for women and children.
It is noteworthy that on May 12, four legislators took the oath of office as ministers during a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior central ministers, and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states.
According to Chief Minister Sarma, the cabinet will be expanded in the first week of June.
