Guwahati, July 31: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the state government has approved a subsidy of ₹41.67 crore for 9,289 beneficiaries under the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ in flood-affected areas. He reiterated the government’s commitment to assist families impacted by the floods.
In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma stated that this aid will benefit families in four districts affected by the floods. He emphasized, “Four districts in Assam are flood-affected, and our government stands firmly with every impacted family.”
In addition to ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts, the government has sanctioned this pending state subsidy for eligible beneficiaries residing in flood-hit districts under the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
Sarma directed the electricity department to ensure that the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) transfers the approved subsidy directly to the bank accounts of all 9,289 beneficiaries by Tuesday.
This announcement comes as the state continues its relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by the latest wave of flooding. Officials are providing food, shelter, and medical assistance while restoring essential services.
In another post, the Chief Minister praised the personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies involved in rescue and relief operations in the affected districts.
Sarma remarked, “Since the onset of the floods, rescue teams have been tirelessly working. Despite challenging conditions, they are ensuring the safe relocation of people and delivering essential relief supplies to those stranded. Since the floods began, the brave personnel of NDRF and SDRF, along with other agencies, have remained steadfast on the ground, rescuing people and providing life-saving resources.”
