Ashok Gehlot Questions Delay in Inauguration of SMS Cardiology Institute

Jaipur, April 1: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has raised concerns regarding the delay in the inauguration of the Cardiology Institute at SMS Hospital in Jaipur. This remark was made during the latest episode of his digital series, ‘Intzaar Shastra.’ He accused the state government of neglecting public health.

In a post on the social media platform X, Gehlot directed his questions at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, asking if Rajasthan’s government hospitals are being systematically weakened to benefit private hospitals.

He highlighted that the Cardiology Institute, constructed at a cost of ₹50 crore, is ready but has yet to be inaugurated. Gehlot questioned whether the BJP government lacks the time to open a completed institute. He expressed concern that political vendettas are taking precedence over the lives of citizens, urging the government to stop playing with public health.

A video accompanying his post showcased images of the facility, claiming that the delay is depriving the public of essential services. It noted that heart-related illnesses have surged post-COVID-19, and the institute was designed to provide comprehensive care under one roof.

According to the video, the facility includes 250 beds, five modular operating theaters, and advanced services like robotic angioplasty. The project commenced in April 2022 and was scheduled for completion by January 2025.

However, Gehlot alleged that finishing work is still pending, with construction materials lying outside the premises. The timeline for the institute’s operational status remains unclear.
