Jaipur, August 18: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called for the immediate withdrawal of a state government order that prohibits photography, videography, and other media activities in government schools without prior permission.
In response to the government’s directive, Gehlot questioned the necessity of such restrictions, especially when education is a significant topic of discussion nationwide. He also raised concerns about the decision-making process behind this order, asking whether it was discussed with Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma or approved collectively by the state cabinet.
Gehlot stated, “Did the ministers consult the Chief Minister? Was this order considered by the entire cabinet? We want to know if this was a collective decision.”
Expressing worry over the media access ban in schools, Gehlot emphasized that it could negatively impact transparency and the functioning of educational institutions. He remarked, “You have barred media access. No one can enter without permission. Schools have various needs and activities, but you are saying that no one can enter without approval.”
He stressed the need for comprehensive reforms in the education sector, advocating for processes that can prevent issues like paper leaks and bring a fresh perspective to the educational system.
Gehlot asserted, “Significant reforms are needed in education. There should be a system that prevents paper leaks and conveys to the world that India prioritizes education.”
He highlighted that education and health are the most crucial issues for the common people, stating, “Ordinary citizens want quality healthcare and quality education for their children.”
The former Chief Minister criticized the state government’s handling of the education department, claiming that this order has further undermined its credibility.
Gehlot urged the state government to revoke the order immediately, asserting that the education system should be strengthened through greater transparency and reforms, not restrictions.
