Barabanki, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : In a heartbreaking incident in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, two children drowned in a deep pit filled with rainwater at a construction site on Sunday evening. Despite extensive search efforts, a third child is still missing, according to police reports.
The tragedy unfolded outside Baina village, within the jurisdiction of the Kursi police station. The three children had entered the factory premises to bathe in a pit that had filled with rainwater due to recent downpours.
Reports indicate that the children, identified as Deva (13), Sumit (10), and Divyansh (15), had gone to the site with other kids in the evening. While bathing, they ventured into deeper water and began to drown. Their friends raised an alarm, prompting local villagers to rush to the scene and initiate rescue efforts.
Villagers managed to pull Deva and Sumit from the water and rushed them to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced both of them dead upon examination. Meanwhile, despite searching for an extended period, Divyansh remains unaccounted for.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police officials from the Kursi station arrived with local divers. The rescue operations faced challenges due to darkness, prompting the need for additional lighting to aid in the search for the missing child.
As police and locals continue their efforts to locate Divyansh, the incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety of deep pits at construction sites, especially during the monsoon season when such pits can pose significant dangers to children.
Authorities are expected to investigate how the children accessed the factory site and review safety measures in place.
