Srinagar, February 13: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtar Ahmed Khan from the Bemina police station for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of ₹8,000. The arrest occurred during an investigation related to an ongoing case where Khan reportedly demanded money illegally from the complainant.
According to sources, the complainant alleged that Khan threatened him, stating that if he did not pay the bribe, he would face legal action or harassment. Given the seriousness of the allegations, the ACB promptly initiated an investigation. Following a preliminary inquiry that confirmed the accusations, a formal case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
During the investigation, the ACB formed a trap team that caught Mukhtar Ahmed Khan red-handed while accepting the bribe. The accused was found to have taken ₹8,000 from the complainant, which was recovered on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses. The arrested officer was immediately taken into custody.
