Bareilly, August 2 (H.S.) — The Anti-Corruption Team on Saturday caught a clerk of the Electricity Department red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The action was taken inside the premises of the Executive Engineer First’s office, exposing negligence rooted in corruption.

The accused clerk, Ajit Kumar, was also found with an additional ₹1.76 lakh in cash in his bag, for which he could not provide any legitimate explanation. During questioning, he failed to produce any receipt or official documentation related to the seized cash.
The Anti-Corruption team arrived at the office of Executive Engineer Manoj Kumar around 3:30 PM on Saturday. As Ajit Kumar was accepting the bribe, the team surrounded him and took him into custody. He was later taken to the Kotwali police station for interrogation.
Search operations were also conducted at Ajit Kumar’s residence and office. The discovery of ₹1.76 lakh in his bag raised suspicions that the amount may have been collected from various bribery-related transactions. The accused failed to account for the sum.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further legal proceedings are underway. The crackdown has caused a stir in the Electricity Department, with employees whispering concerns over the possibility of more heads rolling in the coming days.
