Bengaluru, September 1: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Tuesday that a comprehensive review will be conducted regarding the proposal to allow the use of five percent of public park land. He emphasized that the decisions made by previous governments and the allocation of land will also be scrutinized.
Speaking to reporters near his residence in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister stated that he will request all files related to this proposal and, if necessary, will facilitate a renewed discussion in the assembly.
He remarked, “I will investigate why the proposal to allocate five percent of park land was introduced, what decisions were made by previous governments, and who was allocated which land. After a thorough review, this matter can be revisited in the assembly.”
Shivakumar also mentioned that the land use for the metro project in Lalbagh and the allocation of park land in other areas of Bengaluru will be examined.
Addressing public concerns regarding park land, he assured that there is no need for alarm. “I know how to ensure the protection of park land,” he stated.
The Chief Minister explained that he will gather information on all steps taken by the previous BJP government regarding park land, including Lalbagh, and will consider suggestions from the opposition and the general public.
“My aim is not to create any confusion. All decisions will be made with the broader public interest in mind,” he added.
Shivakumar also noted that 102 taluks in the state have been declared drought-affected, with assessments of several other taluks ongoing. He mentioned that the revenue, agriculture, and other relevant departments will jointly evaluate the situation according to the central government’s standards before making a final decision.
He emphasized the importance of avoiding technical errors in the drought declaration process before the central government’s team visits. Detailed reports have been requested from officials in districts such as Dharwad and Gadag, and he is personally visiting the affected areas.
Regarding the FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi, the Chief Minister described it as a politically motivated action. He stated, “Rahul Gandhi has done nothing wrong. Fighting for the youth and the country is his constitutional right, and Congress stands with him.”
In response to the BJP’s ‘Ballari Chalo’ march, Shivakumar remarked that this opposition initiative presents an opportunity for Congress. He indicated that Congress will formulate its strategy in response.
