Kannauj, February 19: An ancient well has been uncovered at the Maa Phoolmati Devi Temple complex in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. This remarkable discovery occurred during the excavation for the temple’s shikhara (spire) foundation. The temple priest claims that the water from the well possesses healing properties. The well was found while digging for the foundation of the shikhara, which is set to be constructed at a height of 101 feet.
The priest stated, “During the digging of 10-foot deep pits for the shikhara foundation, this ancient well was discovered. Its depth has yet to be determined.” He added that once the 101-foot tall shikhara is completed, the people of Kannauj will be able to witness it.
He further explained, “The well emerged from the pit during the excavation for the foundation. We are unsure of its depth. We believe that the events we read and hear about from ancient times were validated last Wednesday, as it is said that there were originally seven wells in the temple courtyard. The first well was discovered just five steps away from the idol of Maa Phoolmati.”
According to the priest, such an extraordinary well could not be constructed in today’s time. He described the experience of witnessing the well as remarkable. “We believe that Maa Phoolmati used to bathe in the water from this well, which is why it is considered sacred. We distribute this water as prasad to everyone. Devotees take this sacred water as a blessing.”
He continued, “The water from Maa’s well has healing properties, which is why devotees with physical ailments or eye-related issues take this water and find relief from their suffering.”
