Patna, March 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah openly praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his nearly 20 years of governance. This commendation came as Kumar signed nomination papers for his next political phase, transitioning from the assembly to the parliament. It also signals a potential leadership change in Bihar’s political landscape.
Amit Shah referred to Nitish Kumar as a “messiah for the poor,” commending his efforts in steering Bihar away from the era of “jungle raj” towards development and good governance.
Shah made these remarks while accompanying Kumar during the nomination filing for the Rajya Sabha, where both leaders greeted each other warmly.
He stated, “Over the past two decades, the commitment and dedicated leadership of the Nitish government have liberated Bihar from jungle raj, propelling it towards development and effective governance.”
Amit Shah also shared images of Kumar’s nomination filing on his official social media account, X. He emphasized that Kumar’s extensive experience in public service and deep understanding of policy-making would enhance the effectiveness of the Rajya Sabha proceedings. Shah added that Kumar’s presence would strengthen the NDA’s commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
On Thursday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar filed his nomination, accompanied by Nitin Naveen, former MLA Shivesh Kumar, Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur, and Upendra Kushwaha. Upendra Kushwaha was selected as the NDA candidate after high-level discussions among BJP and allied parties.
Kumar’s exit from Bihar politics is seen as the end of an era, although this will be formally confirmed once the Rajya Sabha election process concludes by March 16.
Since 2005, Nitish Kumar has served as Bihar’s Chief Minister a record ten times, with a brief period when Jitan Ram Manjhi held the position after the JDU faced setbacks in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
In a heartfelt message, Kumar thanked the people of Bihar for their trust and support, assuring them that he would continue to work towards building a developed Bihar alongside them.
