
Gir Somnath, April 28: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah visited the sacred site of Jyotirlinga Shri Somnath Mahadev on Tuesday. During this significant journey, which symbolizes faith, self-respect, and dedication, he performed special prayers and sought blessings from Mahadev.
Minister Shah bowed his head at the feet of Somnath Mahadev, conducting flag worship, Tag worship, and Someshwar Mahapuja. He presented a special ‘Marathi Tagda’ to Somnath Mahadev, crafted in the style of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a revered devotee of Shiva. This offering was made using silver and precious fabrics.
After the prayers, Minister Shah hoisted the flag atop the temple and raised the religious flag. He was welcomed by Yogendra Desai, Secretary of the Somnath Trust, and General Manager Vijay Singh Chawda, who honored him with a memorable gift from Somnath Mahadev.
Additionally, Minister Shah shared details of the visit on X, stating, “Jai Somnath! Somnath Jyotirlinga is the center of our eternal and indestructible Sanatan culture. It reflects our struggles and renaissance. Today, I prayed for the happiness, prosperity, and welfare of all while visiting Somnath Mahadev.”
The Somnath Trust, under the leadership of its Chairman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has organized the ‘Somnath Swabhimaan Parv – Special Mahapuja.’ The formal booking for this puja was inaugurated by Amit Shah. Devotees can register for this special puja through the Trust’s website, which will commence on May 11, 2026.
This special puja will include a Mahabhishek of Mahadev with Panchamrit, milk, grains, and holy Ganga water. Offerings will include a dhoti, upper garment, Rudraksha mala, and Janeu for Mahadev, while Mata Parvati will receive a saree and continuous adornment. The rituals will also feature chanting of the Mahamrityunjaya mantra, Rajbhog thali, and a lamp offering, along with special prayers and Brahmin meals for devotees.
To promote the rich heritage of Sanatan knowledge and Indian culture globally, Minister Shah launched the quarterly e-magazine “Somnath Vrat” by the Somnath Trust. Developed under the philosophical guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this magazine will include articles filled with knowledge from the Vedas and ancient Indian philosophy. It will be available for free on the Somnath Trust’s website, aiming to connect the new generation with ancient wisdom through modern technology.
In Gir Somnath district, the Somnath Trust has initiated a commendable and sensitive campaign to promote tuberculosis (TB) prevention. On this occasion, under the supervision of Minister Amit Shah, the Trust distributed special nutritional kits to TB patients for their health and speedy recovery.
