Baramulla, June 20: Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, visited the historic Hazrat Syed Janbaz Wali shrine in Khanpora, Baramulla district on Saturday. During her visit, she inspected the heritage conservation and restoration project by the Jammu and Kashmir Archives, Archaeology, and Museums Department and listened to the concerns of local residents and devotees.
This visit was organized in response to the ongoing demands from the community and worshippers. Locals expressed that several crucial aspects were overlooked in the restoration work, raising concerns about the preservation of this culturally and religiously significant heritage site. They appealed to the Waqf Board Chairperson for personal intervention to find appropriate solutions.
During the inspection, Dr. Andrabi thoroughly assessed the project’s status and gathered information from the relevant officials. She announced on-site that reconstruction would commence not only at the main shrine site but also on all parts of the project that remain incomplete. She assured that the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board would initiate necessary development and conservation works promptly.
Dr. Andrabi emphasized that the reconstruction and development efforts would be carried out in a manner that fully preserves the shrine’s religious sanctity, historical heritage, and spiritual significance. She also assured that the sentiments of the local community would be respected. She committed to maintaining a focus on quality and transparency throughout the project.
Her announcement was welcomed by the local community, who viewed it as a significant step towards preserving religious heritage and praised the Waqf Board’s initiative. Many expressed that this decision attempts to strike a balance between heritage conservation and public sentiments.
Earlier, Dr. Andrabi chaired a high-level meeting at the Baramulla District Commissioner’s office to review the project’s progress. The meeting included senior officials from various departments, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Syed Altaf Hussain Musavi, Waqf Board Executive Magistrate Ishtiaq Mohiuddin, and Executive Engineer of the R&B Department Mohammad Yunis Shah.
