Aligarh, July 1: Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain has raised serious allegations regarding the widespread misuse of Zakat funds and Waqf donations. He called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of Muslim charitable organizations. Hussain emphasized that the benefits of Zakat and Waqf revenues are not reaching the poor, orphans, and needy individuals, highlighting the urgent need for strict action in this matter.
In response to questions about alleged theft in Zakat, Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain stated that significant amounts of Zakat are being misappropriated. He pointed out that various sources within the Muslim community, including mosques, madrasas, and shrines like Haji Ali and Ajmer Sharif, are involved in this large-scale theft. He claimed that approximately 40,000 crore rupees intended for aiding the poor, orphans, and needy individuals are being misused. Influential and wealthy individuals have reportedly exploited these resources for personal gain, amassing vast properties in their names.
Hussain noted that theft is occurring within mosques and shrines, severely impacting the impoverished, orphans, and needy. The intended benefits are not reaching those who need them most, leading to significant setbacks for a large segment of the Muslim community. This has resulted in a weakened status and unmet basic needs for many. He also highlighted alleged irregularities in the income generated from Waqf properties, claiming that around 50,000 crore rupees are being misappropriated annually. If utilized correctly, these funds could significantly aid the development of the weaker sections of the Muslim community.
Furthermore, Hussain expressed his desire for the same level of stringent action taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding theft cases linked to the Shri Ram Temple. He urged the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and immediate, decisive action in this significant financial issue concerning Zakat and Waqf within the Muslim community. He stressed that this substantial amount should be utilized for the benefit of the most vulnerable and deserving individuals in society, calling for a fair investigation and action in this matter.
