New Delhi, May 23: The tragic shooting death of Bihar native Pandav Kumar in Uttam Nagar has ignited a political firestorm. Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Delhi state president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has leveled serious accusations against the Delhi Police, claiming they are attempting to shield the officer involved in the incident.
Bhardwaj asserted that the Test Identification Parade (TIP) was deliberately arranged to prevent eyewitnesses from identifying the accused. He stated that during the TIP, ten individuals, including the suspect, were dressed identically, wore hats, and had tape over their eyes and noses. He pointed out that the accused was not wearing a hat or tape on the night of the incident, and his clear appearance on camera suggests an effort by the police to obscure his identity.
Bhardwaj further alleged that the murder of Pandav, which occurred about a month ago near Dwarka in Uttam Nagar, was motivated by his origins from Bihar. He claimed that the accused, a police officer from the Special Cell, made derogatory remarks about Bihar before firing his service revolver, resulting in Pandav’s death and injuries to a companion.
Additionally, Bhardwaj accused the police of pressuring the victim’s family. He noted that when AAP leaders visited the family on Friday, they were detained at the police station for hours to prevent discussions with the leaders. He suggested that this action appears to be part of a scheme to undermine the case.
During this time, Sanjeev Jha remarked that Pandav’s only “fault” was being from Bihar, referring to the incident as a “martyrdom” rather than a murder. Jha has been on a hunger strike since Friday, demanding justice for the deceased’s family.
The family is seeking a compensation of one crore rupees, a government job for a family member, and a swift trial for the accused. Jha stated that he has written to various leaders, including the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Lieutenant Governor, requesting intervention, but has yet to receive a response. He accused the BJP government and Delhi Police of injustice against the impoverished Bihari family.
He warned that if justice is not served, his hunger strike will continue. The mother of the deceased, visibly emotional, expressed her desire for justice, stating, “I want nothing but justice for my son. He always called me ‘Mummy.’ Now, who will call me ‘Mummy’?”
