Air Quality Deteriorates in NCR as Temperatures Rise

Noida, March 7: The air quality index (AQI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) is showing signs of deterioration once again. After a brief improvement due to strong winds over the past few days, pollution levels are on the rise.

Recent data indicates that several areas in Greater Noida and Ghaziabad have recorded AQI levels surpassing the red mark, indicating a serious health risk. Meanwhile, various regions in Delhi and Noida are fluctuating between ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ air quality categories.

The situation in Greater Noida appears particularly alarming. In Knowledge Park-5, an AQI of 331 was recorded, categorizing it as hazardous to health. Knowledge Park-3 also reported an AQI of 202, which falls under the ‘poor’ category.

Similarly, pollution levels have surged in several areas of Ghaziabad. In Loni, an AQI of 312 was noted, while Sanjay Nagar recorded 301, both indicating a severe condition. Additionally, Indirapuram reported an AQI of 273 and Vasundhara 271, both classified as ‘very poor.’

In Noida, various sectors are also experiencing concerning air quality. Sector 125 recorded an AQI of 278, Sector 1 noted 262, and Sector 116 reported 269, all falling into the ‘very poor’ category. Sector 62 recorded an AQI of 201, which is categorized as ‘poor.’

Delhi’s air quality is also unsatisfactory in many areas. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 278, Ashok Vihar 263, Bawana 260, and Burari Crossing 251. Other areas like Chandni Chowk reported an AQI of 239, Commonwealth Sports Complex 231, and CRRI Mathura Road 210. However, the cantonment area showed slightly better conditions with an AQI of 177 and Aaya Nagar at 197.

According to the meteorological department, temperatures are expected to rise steadily in the coming days. The seven-day forecast predicts a minimum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 32 degrees on March 7. On March 8 and 9, the minimum is expected to be 17 degrees, with a maximum of 33 degrees. From March 10 to 12, maximum temperatures could reach 34 degrees, while minimums will range between 16 and 17 degrees. Clear weather and strong sunshine are also anticipated.

Experts suggest that rising temperatures and decreased wind speeds lead to the accumulation of pollutant particles in the atmosphere, resulting in higher AQI levels. Residents are advised to exercise caution when going outside, particularly in the morning and evening, wear masks, and pay special attention to children and the elderly.
