Mumbai, August 16: The memory of the 106 martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement will now receive permanent recognition. The Maharashtra government has decided to prominently display the names of these martyrs at the main entrance of Air India’s new administrative building in Mumbai.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has shown a positive response to this proposal and has directed the state’s chief secretary to take necessary actions regarding it.
During the historic movement for the formation of Samyukta Maharashtra, 106 activists laid down their lives. Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar wrote to the Chief Minister, urging that the contributions of these martyrs be conveyed to the younger generation.
In his letter, Shelar stated that the renovation of the new Air India building, now under government control, is currently underway, and administrative operations will begin soon. Therefore, he requested that the names of all 106 martyrs be displayed in a respectful manner at the main entrance of the building.
The Maharashtra government minister emphasized, “The sacrifices made for the formation of Maharashtra should serve as an inspiration for future generations. It is the government’s responsibility to honor these martyrs. Displaying their names on the administrative building will be a true tribute.”
Following the Chief Minister’s directives, a clear path has been established for these 106 martyrs to receive honorable recognition in a significant state administrative building. According to the proposal, the names will be placed in a location at the main entrance visible to all visitors.
Government officials have indicated that this task will be completed alongside the building’s renovation, ensuring that when operations commence, the names of the martyrs will already be present with due respect. The Samyukta Maharashtra Movement is one of the most significant events in the state’s history.
