
Dehradun, August 16: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid heartfelt tribute to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary. He offered floral tributes at Vajpayee’s portrait in the Chief Minister’s residence.
CM Dhami remarked that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a devotee of Mother India, a nationalist thinker, an eloquent speaker, a renowned poet, and a vigilant guardian of democratic values. Throughout his public life, he prioritized national service, good governance, national unity, and democratic ideals. His personality and contributions will always inspire the citizens of the country.
Dhami further stated that Vajpayee established high ideals and values in politics. He significantly contributed to strengthening India’s democratic traditions and establishing the nation as a powerful entity on the global stage. His visionary thinking, simple and approachable personality, and dedication to national interests will always be remembered.
Uttarakhand BJP President Mahendra Bhatt also paid homage to Vajpayee on his death anniversary. Bhatt wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “A tribute to our source of inspiration, the illustrious former Prime Minister and the revered Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who dedicated his life to national service.”
The state unit of the BJP posted on ‘X’, “A humble tribute to Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, an invincible figure in Indian politics, an indefatigable servant of the nation, and a beacon for countless workers. His life, thoughts, and loyalty to the nation will always guide us.”
Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as Prime Minister from March 16 to March 31, 1996, and again from March 19, 1998, to May 13, 2004. He was the first leader to become Prime Minister after winning three consecutive Lok Sabha elections, following Jawaharlal Nehru. He holds the distinction of leading his party to victory three times, before PM Narendra Modi and after Indira Gandhi. Vajpayee was a leader who won elections from four different states: Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi.
Over his remarkable four-decade parliamentary career, he was elected to the Lok Sabha nine times and to the Rajya Sabha twice. Rising from a humble family in Gwalior to the highest office in India, Vajpayee was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1992 for his selfless service to the nation and received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in 2015.
