New Delhi, August 5: All 13 passengers injured during sudden turbulence on Air India flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi have been discharged from the hospital. However, four crew members are still receiving treatment. Air India provided an update on Wednesday evening, stating that their teams are present at the hospitals to assist affected passengers and crew members in every possible way.
According to Air India, the Airbus aircraft had 137 passengers and eight crew members on board. The incident occurred on August 4, injuring 13 passengers and four crew members, who were admitted to the hospital. All 13 passengers have now been released, while the treatment for the four crew members continues.
Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reported that the turbulence lasted for about four to five minutes, resulting in injuries to several passengers and crew members. He noted that airport staff immediately initiated relief and rescue operations upon the aircraft’s arrival in Delhi, providing timely medical assistance to those in need.
The minister mentioned that seven passengers were admitted to Medanta Hospital, all of whom have since been discharged. Additionally, two passengers with minor injuries received treatment at Fortis Hospital and have also been released. The treatment for the four injured crew members is ongoing at Fortis Hospital.
Ram Mohan Naidu praised the crew for their dedication, stating that they assisted passengers despite being injured themselves. He specifically commended the courage and commitment of the female crew members.
He further explained that some injured individuals sustained injuries to their spine, tailbone, and neck. Given the seriousness of the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation. The affected aircraft has been placed in a separate hangar, and both the data recorder and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) are under examination.
The minister assured that the investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident during the flight. He promised that all findings would be made public once the investigation is complete.
Air India reiterated that the safety of its passengers and crew remains its top priority and that it will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities until the investigation concludes. Additionally, they will provide all possible support to the affected passengers and their families.
