Jammu, August 31: A retired Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) tragically lost his life in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, after his throat was cut by a Chinese kite string while riding his motorcycle. The incident occurred near the Ring Road in Jammu.
Officials reported that on Sunday evening, Naib Subedar Lakhwinder Singh, who was riding his bike in the Bishnah area, suffered a severe injury to his neck from the kite string. Bystanders quickly rushed the retired soldier to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Lakhwinder Singh was returning home to the RS Pura area after finishing work at an industrial unit in Bari Brahmana, where he served as a private security guard.
Authorities have imposed a ban on the sale and use of Chinese ‘maja’ (kite string), and recently, several shopkeepers across Jammu have been arrested for illegally trading this material.
This recent death has raised concerns about the enforcement of the ban, with residents demanding strict action against those selling and using the prohibited string.
Officials stated that the police have registered a case under relevant legal provisions and are continuing their investigation to identify and punish the offenders.
In Jammu district, former soldiers receive assistance from the District Soldier Welfare Office (ZSWO) located in the area. The ZSWO manages welfare, documentation, and re-employment activities for ex-servicemen.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the deployment of 4,000 ex-servicemen volunteers for non-combat security duties and the protection of critical infrastructure, such as power stations and bridges, in coordination with local police and the District Soldier Welfare Board.
Regular job fairs and rallies are organized to connect former military personnel with second career opportunities and to address pension or medical complaints, such as those held periodically at the Satwari Cantonment by the Tiger Division/DGR.
