Chaibasa, August 31: In a tragic incident in the Saranda region of West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, three villagers were swept away by the rising waters of the Kuiyli Hill River due to continuous rainfall. Two bodies have been recovered, while one woman remains missing.
Authorities and local residents are actively searching for the missing woman. The incident occurred in Bahda village, under the jurisdiction of the Chotanagpur police station. Reports indicate that the three villagers were returning home after attending a funeral around 6 PM on Sunday when the river’s water level surged unexpectedly due to the heavy rains. They were caught in the strong currents and swept away.
Upon learning of the incident, villagers initiated a search around the river. Late Sunday night, one woman’s body was discovered approximately 500 meters from the scene, entangled in the river’s bushes. She was identified as the mother of local resident Munda Roya Sidhu. Following this, a police team led by Chotanagpur police station chief Gautam Kumar arrived at the site to assist in the search efforts. On Monday morning, during a joint search operation, the body of Bosen Sidhu was also recovered from the river.
According to police, the missing woman has been identified as Sunita Sidhu, the wife of Bamiya Sidhu. The search for her continues. Police and villagers are scouring the riverbanks, bushes, and potential flow areas. The continuous rainfall has elevated the river’s water level, complicating the search operation due to the swift currents.
Authorities are also conducting searches in areas prone to flooding. This incident has left Roya Sidhu bereaved, having lost both his parents. The atmosphere in Bahda village is one of mourning following this tragic event.
