Ahmedabad Police Conduct Major Vehicle Check Operation, Inspect Over 4,700 Cars

Ahmedabad, August 7: The Ahmedabad police conducted a significant vehicle inspection operation, checking over 4,700 cars. The operation took place early Friday morning, targeting issues related to drunk driving, violations of the prohibition laws, and drug-related offenses.

This operation was executed on August 7, from midnight until 5 AM, under the direction of Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot. Inspections were carried out at 59 locations across Ahmedabad.

Additionally, teams from the Crime Branch and Special Operations Group (SOG) conducted checks in various parts of the city.

According to officials, a total of 4,712 vehicles were inspected during this campaign. The police seized 66 vehicles for operating without necessary documents or valid insurance under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Eighty-two vehicles had illegal black films removed, and 24 drivers were charged under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act for driving under the influence.

The police also registered three cases against drivers for reckless driving and obstructing public roads under Sections 281 and 285 of the Indian Penal Code.

As part of the enforcement drive, 13 cases were filed for violating the prohibition order under Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act. Additionally, 16 more cases were registered under Section 135(1) for violating restrictions on carrying weapons.

Under the Prohibition Act, police filed seven cases for possession of prohibited alcohol, seizing 27 bottles of foreign liquor valued at ₹6,511 and other property worth ₹666,511.

Authorities also recovered 19 liters of country liquor valued at ₹3,800 and other property worth ₹2,805. Furthermore, 21 cases were registered against individuals found consuming alcohol.

The police also filed two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In the Gajjar Haveli police station area, officials seized 359 bottles of restricted cough syrup valued at ₹63,543 from a four-wheeler and detained three individuals.

In a separate case from the Kagadpith police station area, police confiscated 115 grams of cannabis worth ₹5,075 from a two-wheeler and arrested one suspect.
