Ahmedabad, March 4: A special court in Ahmedabad has sentenced two drug traffickers to 15 years in prison for possessing 3.983 kilograms of charas in a 2019 case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on each of the accused, as confirmed by an officer from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday.
The Bharuch Additional District and Sessions Court found the defendants, Malek Shireen Bano (40) and Firoz Khan Pathan (48), guilty under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
On October 12, 2019, both individuals were arrested at Bharuch Railway Station after arriving on the West Express. The NCB reported that 3.983 kilograms of charas were seized from them, documented in the presence of multiple witnesses. The thorough investigation and diligent prosecution by the NCB’s Ahmedabad zonal unit ensured that justice was served, protecting communities from the dire consequences of drug abuse.
In a separate case, an Ahmedabad special court sentenced a drug trafficker to 12 years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh in a 2023 mephedrone trafficking case. An NCB officer disclosed this information on Monday. The additional sessions judge found Mohammad Irfan Usman Ghani Syed, a resident of Kalupur in Ahmedabad, guilty.
This case is linked to the seizure of 155 grams of mephedrone and 43 grams of charas at Kalupur Railway Station in February 2023, which led to the arrest of the drug trafficker.
