Beirut, March 15: The Lebanese Ministry of Health has dismissed Israeli military claims that ambulances were used for military operations. The ministry labeled these accusations as an attempt to justify “crimes against humanity.”
The statement highlighted that since the onset of attacks on Lebanon, the Israeli army has repeatedly targeted ambulance teams during rescue operations. This includes an attack on a primary health center in the southern village of Burj Kalawiyah on Saturday morning.
According to the ministry, the assault resulted in the deaths of 12 medical personnel, including doctors, nurses, and rescue workers. One health worker was critically injured, and four others are missing.
Furthermore, the ministry reported that since March 2, 26 paramedics have been killed, and 51 others injured due to Israeli attacks. This figure serves as evidence of the ongoing assaults on medical teams, which have reached the Lebanese Red Cross for the first time since October 2023.
Israel’s assertion that ambulances are being utilized for military purposes is seen as an attempt to justify violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which protect medical personnel and facilities.
Earlier on Saturday, an Israeli army spokesperson posted on the social media platform X, claiming that Hezbollah is extensively using ambulances for “military purposes,” warning that the military use of medical facilities and ambulances must cease immediately.
Hezbollah announced on March 2 that it had launched rockets from Lebanon towards Israel for the first time since a ceasefire was implemented on November 27, 2024. In response, Israel initiated aggressive military operations against the group, conducting intense airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
