Tehran, March 15: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, has issued a stark warning that any attack on Iran’s oil and energy infrastructure will prompt retaliatory actions against local sites linked to American companies.
In an interview with US broadcaster MS Now, Araghchi responded to recent US strikes on Iran’s strategic oil terminal on Kharg Island and President Donald Trump’s threats to target the island’s oil infrastructure if shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted.
Araghchi stated that Iran’s armed forces have already made it clear that they will respond if their oil and energy infrastructure is attacked. They will target any energy facility in the region owned or partially owned by American companies.
He also claimed that the US strikes on Friday originated from two locations in the United Arab Emirates. Araghchi cautioned that using densely populated areas for attacks on Iran is extremely dangerous. He emphasized that while Iran will certainly retaliate, they will strive to avoid targeting populated areas.
Reiterating this warning, the Iranian military command, Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, stated that any assault on Iran’s oil, economic, or energy infrastructure would be met with immediate strikes on regional sites associated with American interests. Spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari told the official IRNA news agency that all oil, economic, and energy infrastructures linked to American interests would be destroyed and turned to ashes.
Araghchi noted that, aside from the ships of Iran’s enemies and their allies, the Strait of Hormuz remains open for vessels. Although some ships are avoiding the waterway due to security concerns, many tankers continue to pass through.
Despite the attacks, oil exports from Kharg Island are ongoing without interruption. The Deputy Governor of Bushehr Province, Ehsan Jahaniyan, informed the semi-official Tasnim news agency that military facilities and the airport on Kharg have sustained damage, but there have been no casualties, and commercial operations continue.
It is noteworthy that on February 28, Israel and the United States conducted joint strikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior military commanders, and over 1,300 civilians. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli and American installations and assets in the Middle East.
