New Delhi, August 21: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is in discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the dates for the upcoming three-match T20 International series between India and Afghanistan.
According to the original schedule, the three T20 matches are set to take place at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17. However, the ACB is considering moving these matches to September 11, 13, and 14. This decision aims to increase attendance at the stadium and viewership on television, particularly since Ganesh Chaturthi falls on September 14.
Afghanistan will host India for this bilateral T20 International series, with the matches being held in the Indian capital.
Bhairav Shant, co-founder of ITW Universe, stated on Friday, “The ACB has proposed this change and is in talks with the BCCI. We expect formal approval by Monday. There is a strong possibility that one of the matches will be held on the 14th. The rest of the schedule will depend on planning and operations between the DDCA, BCCI, and ACB. We will officially announce the final revised schedule once discussions are complete.”
An official from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) mentioned that they were unaware of the proposed changes. Meanwhile, the BCCI confirmed that any final decision regarding the schedule rests with the ACB.
A BCCI official commented, “The decision is up to Afghanistan, not us. They are hosting the matches because there are no venues available for international matches in their country. That is why they have come to India for this series.”
