Neeraj Chopra Faces Challenge from Rumes Pathirage at Lausanne Diamond League

New Delhi, August 21: After winning a silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra is set to showcase his skills once again at the Lausanne Diamond League.

The Lausanne Diamond League promises to be an exciting event, featuring numerous Olympic, World, and European champions. In the men’s javelin throw, South Asia’s two biggest stars, India’s Neeraj Chopra and Sri Lanka‘s Rumes Tharanga Pathirage, will face off once more.

Chopra aims to reach the top at the Lausanne Diamond League, taking place at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Switzerland. This will be Chopra’s fourth appearance in Lausanne and his third competitive event of the 2026 athletics season.

Pathirage secured his spot in the finals in Brussels with a throw of 92.62 meters in June in Rome. Meanwhile, former Olympic and Diamond League champion Chopra finds himself trailing in the standings and needs a significant throw in Lausanne.

Chopra will compete against European stars in a strong field, similar to the Commonwealth Games 2026. On August 21, five javelin superstars, who have collectively won the last four Olympic and World Championship titles, will battle fiercely.

In addition to Neeraj Chopra and Pathirage, Trinidad and Tobago’s Walcott and Grenada’s Peters will also participate. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has withdrawn from the event.

The match will begin at 11:52 PM IST on Friday. The Lausanne Diamond League 2026 will be broadcast live on the official Diamond League YouTube channel in India. Indian viewers can watch the event on Sports18, with live streaming available on JioCinema.
