New Delhi, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : Afghanistan faced a daunting target of 222 runs set by India in their recent T20 match, but their chase faltered early. The team lost its first wicket for just 31 runs and collapsed to a total of 94 within 14.1 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Following the 127-run defeat, captain Ibrahim Zadran voiced his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance.
“We made some improvements in the powerplay, and I am completely satisfied with the team’s intent,” Zadran stated. “However, we did not contribute well in today’s match. We lost wickets consistently, which is something we need to work on. As I mentioned earlier, we have thought about how to carry forward our intent. Yes, we might face some challenges in one or two series, but I am confident we will improve over time. If we do not work in this direction and show that intent, it will be very difficult to beat major teams at the international level.”
When asked about the necessary changes for improvement, Zadran pointed out that this series was Afghanistan’s first since the T20 World Cup. “We need to play more matches and more series, especially against bigger teams. The more we play, the more I believe we will improve.”
He added, “We compete against Zimbabwe and Ireland, but we have the potential to reach that level. If we want to improve, we must focus on our game and fitness to match the standards of larger teams. After that, I am confident we can provide strong challenges and regularly defeat major teams, but this will take time. We need to play more matches each year.”
