UN Security Council Holds Open Meeting on Afghanistan Issues

Beijing, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : The United Nations Security Council convened an open meeting focused on Afghanistan on September 17, 2026. Sun Lei, the acting head of the Chinese delegation to the UN, emphasized the need for the international community to adopt a comprehensive approach to the situation in Afghanistan.

Sun stated that all parties should cherish the results of their communication and dialogue with the Afghan government. He called for maintaining goodwill and patience while respecting Afghanistan’s national circumstances and stages of development. Strengthening practical communication on mutually concerning issues is vital to build trust, resolve differences, and promote Afghanistan’s gradual integration into the international community.

Additionally, the Chinese delegation urged the Afghan government to guarantee the fundamental rights of all Afghan citizens, including women. China also called for intensified counter-terrorism efforts in Afghanistan, aiming to eliminate all terrorist forces within its borders swiftly. Strengthening dialogue and cooperation on counter-terrorism with neighboring countries was also highlighted as a priority.
