New Delhi, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : India clinched a commanding 127-run victory over Afghanistan in the final match of the T20 series held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday. With this win, the Indian team completed a clean sweep, finishing the series 3-0. Captain Shreyas Iyer praised the remarkable performance of Abhishek Sharma, who scored a stunning century.
Abhishek Sharma’s innings was nothing short of spectacular. He smashed 108 runs off just 34 balls, hitting 11 sixes and 9 fours. His century came in just 30 balls, setting a record for the fastest hundred by a player from a full-member team.
Batting first after losing the toss, India posted a total of 221 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Afghanistan struggled in response, being bowled out for just 94 runs in 14.1 overs.
Following the series victory, Iyer commented, “I wouldn’t call it a dominant win, but we must respect Afghanistan for coming here and hosting the series. Their performance was commendable. The pitch wasn’t easy, but Abhishek’s batting was fantastic, and it was a pleasure to watch him play.”
Iyer also noted that he anticipated batting today after discussions with Ibrahim, who preferred to bowl first in the earlier matches. “We got off to a great start and managed to accelerate in the middle overs to reach 220, which was commendable,” he added.
In the bowling department, Axar Patel excelled, taking 2 wickets for just 9 runs in 3 overs. Iyer praised him, stating, “He has done this before and continues to perform well. He understands when tough situations arise and is the right player to deliver in those moments. Personally, I believe he is a very intelligent player who thinks deeply about his game and consistently performs well. So, congratulations to him.”
