Mumbai, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Mumbai police have arrested a 40-year-old woman from Palghar for allegedly stealing jewelry worth ₹5 lakh from the home of actress Ameesha Patel’s parents in Churchgate. The suspect, identified as Seema Ghate, had reportedly worked as a domestic helper for Ameesha’s mother, Asha Patel, for about a year and a half.
The jewelry theft reportedly took place in January 2026. Asha Patel had grown suspicious of Ghate and had been urging her to confess to the theft and return the stolen items over the past five to six months. However, Ghate allegedly did not comply. This prompted Asha Patel to contact the Marine Drive police and file a formal complaint.
Following the complaint, the Marine Drive police registered a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code. Initially, the case was filed against an unidentified woman. Under the guidance of the senior police inspector, the crime detection team conducted an investigation and traced Ghate to Virar.
After being taken into custody, Ghate was presented in court and has been remanded to police custody until September 15. Authorities are currently investigating the recovery of the stolen jewelry and looking into whether the suspect has any prior criminal record.
