Abu Azmi Criticizes BJP Government for Missed Opportunity to Become Global Leader

Mumbai, May 18: Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi has voiced his concerns on various pressing issues, including the Middle East conflict, the central government’s foreign policy, rising inflation, public prayers on the streets, and the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals. He criticized the policies of the central government and BJP-ruled states, claiming that a particular community is being targeted and that the failure of foreign policy is impacting the common people through inflation.

In an interview, Azmi stated that India had a chance to become a global leader, which has now been squandered. He emphasized that India is a great nation and should have taken the initiative to stop wars. He declared that the central government’s foreign policy has failed, leading to severe inflation.

Azmi pointed out the contradiction in the Prime Minister’s appeal for citizens to save fuel and avoid foreign travel while he himself is visiting multiple countries. He noted that there is no visible effort to curb inflation or to bring fuel into the country. He criticized leaders for merely reducing the number of vehicles in their convoys as a show of austerity, insisting that wasteful spending must come to an end.

Regarding the prohibition of public prayers in Kolkata, he remarked that Muslims are being targeted. He explained that while crowds may pray outside mosques worldwide, in BJP-ruled areas, such practices are being restricted. He added that people of other religions hold large public events without facing opposition from Muslims, who instead show support.

On the issue of public prayers being banned in Uttar Pradesh, Azmi stated that the Chief Minister holds significant power and can act as he wishes, even going so far as to allow police custody killings. He warned that the oppression of a community will eventually have consequences.

Azmi clarified that while they do not oppose “Vande Mataram,” religious individuals will bow only to Allah. He expressed that they stand in respect but do not sing it, and other Muslims singing it does not bother them.

He also urged vigilance against Bangladeshi nationals being included on voter lists, stressing that it is the government’s responsibility to prevent their entry into the country. He accused political parties of using the issue for their own agendas.
