Kolkata, June 30: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee has raised concerns about law and order in West Bengal following an alleged attack outside his family’s residence. He took to the social media platform ‘X’ to claim that violence has become normalized in the state, with criminals receiving protection.
In his post, Banerjee alleged that on Tuesday morning, an individual arrived on a motorcycle and repeatedly threw a large stone at the first-floor windows of his family home, shattering the glass. He described this incident not just as a law and order issue but as a case of institutionalized violence.
Banerjee questioned the police’s whereabouts during the incident and speculated on who might have directed the assailant to carry out such an attack. He accused the state of fostering an environment where criminals feel assured of political protection.
Targeting the BJP, Banerjee stated that violence and hooliganism are being encouraged in Bengal. He claimed that the government’s policies have emboldened criminals.
He also referenced the recently passed ‘West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026,’ questioning whether this law would apply to those accused of being BJP supporters.
Banerjee expressed his concern and distress over the current state of affairs in the region. He called for effective action against incidents of violence and raised questions about the administration’s role.
TMC leaders continue to voice their apprehensions about the deteriorating security situation in West Bengal.
