Bhavnagar, July 2: Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat addressed a natural farming conference in the village of Sartanpar, Bhavnagar district. He emphasized the need to promote natural farming through public participation to reduce agricultural costs, improve public health, and create a ‘Toxin-Free India.’
While presiding over the conference, the governor described natural farming as more than just an agricultural method. He framed it as a national mission linked to human health, environmental protection, soil fertility, and the welfare of future generations.
He pointed out that excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has led to the pollution of soil, water, air, and food. This has resulted in a rise in serious diseases and placed a heavy financial burden on the country through fertilizer imports and healthcare expenses.
Governor Devvrat stressed that natural farming is not merely an agricultural practice but a national mission connected to human health, environmental conservation, soil fertility, and a secure future for upcoming generations. He called for making natural farming a people’s movement through public participation to achieve a toxin-free India.
He noted that nature has its own mechanisms for maintaining soil fertility, and farming based on earthworms, microorganisms, and indigenous cows improves soil health while promoting rainwater conservation.
In contrast, he stated that chemical farming hardens the soil and hinders groundwater recharge.
He emphasized that natural farming reduces agricultural costs, improves soil health, produces toxin-free and nutritious food, and increases farmers’ incomes.
Citing a scientific study, the governor revealed that researchers found traces of pesticides, detergents, and urea in breast milk samples collected from 105 women, warning that these findings pose serious risks to human health and future generations.
Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Acharya Devvrat noted that the success of natural farming there has encouraged thousands of farmers to adopt this method, and their numbers have now reached millions.
He urged every farmer practicing natural farming to encourage at least ten more farmers in their village to adopt this method. He also called on local residents to implement natural farming in a mission mode.
