Abhishek Banerjee Exits CID Office After Extensive Interrogation in Signature Mismatch Case

Kolkata, June 14: West Bengal CID officials interrogated Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and Lok Sabha member, for nearly eight and a half hours on Sunday regarding the signature mismatch case in the assembly.

Banerjee left the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan around 8:20 PM. Prior to his exit, Kunal Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress MLA from Beleghata, also departed after approximately four hours of questioning.

After leaving the CID office, Ghosh stated that he had cooperated with the investigation. He mentioned that CID officials had confronted him and Banerjee during the questioning process. However, Ghosh refrained from making further comments after exiting the headquarters and went directly to the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat.

Before entering Mamata Banerjee’s home, Ghosh remarked, “I am a witness in this case. I have cooperated with the investigation and have done what was asked of me.”

About an hour later, Banerjee emerged from the CID headquarters after his extensive questioning. He had arrived at the CID office for another round of inquiries regarding the signature mismatch case on Sunday afternoon.

The CID had summoned Banerjee to appear by noon. However, the Trinamool Congress MP arrived at the CID office ahead of schedule.

The Calcutta High Court had instructed Banerjee to cooperate with the investigation conducted by the state police’s intelligence department. The court also stated that the CID would not take any stringent action against him for the next two weeks.

Banerjee’s vehicle reached the CID office around 11:43 AM. He first went to the reception, where he presented his identification and signed the attendance register before entering the office.

Security around the Bhawani Bhavan complex was heightened, with additional state police and central forces deployed in the area. Despite it being a holiday, CID officials arrived at the office early on Sunday.

Previously, Banerjee had appeared before CID officials for questioning on Thursday, June 11, where he was interrogated for over five hours.
