Aadhaar Update

In a major development that will simplify Aadhaar-related services, the process to update your Aadhaar card is set to become fully digital from November 2025. According to recent media reports, users will soon be able to update their Aadhaar details — including name, address, date of birth, and mobile number — right from the comfort of their homes, without having to visit an Aadhaar enrollment center.

Aadhaar Update

This move will make the process much more convenient and will especially benefit those who struggle to take time out of their busy schedules to visit the centers.

Current Aadhaar Update Process

At present, if an Aadhaar cardholder wishes to make any updates — such as changing their name, address, date of birth, or mobile number — they must physically visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorized center. The current process also requires biometric verification and can be time-consuming for many citizens.

What Will Change from November 2025?

Starting November 2025, the Aadhaar update process will go completely online. Users will simply receive an OTP (One-Time Password) on their registered mobile number and will be able to submit update requests digitally.

This change will:

  • Allow users to update Aadhaar details from home

  • Eliminate the need for frequent visits to Aadhaar centers

  • Make updates faster and more secure

  • Save time, especially for those living in remote or rural areas

UIDAI May Launch New ‘E-Aadhaar’ App

In addition, reports suggest that UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is working on a new mobile app, possibly to be called E-Aadhaar. The app will allow users to manage Aadhaar updates conveniently through their smartphones.

Through this app, Aadhaar holders will be able to:

  • Update personal details like name, address, date of birth, mobile number

  • Submit documents online

  • Track update requests

This app-based approach is expected to further streamline the update process and improve accessibility.

When Will You Still Need to Visit a Center?

While most general updates will be possible online, users may still need to visit Aadhaar centers for certain changes:

  • Biometric updates (fingerprints, iris scans)

  • In cases where identity verification requires physical authentication

Benefits of the New Aadhaar Update Process

  • Convenience: Major time savings for both urban and rural users

  • Reduced travel: No more long queues or multiple visits to Aadhaar centers

  • Enhanced security: Digital OTP-based authentication can help reduce fraud risks

  • Accessibility: Easier for the elderly and differently-abled citizens to update their Aadhaar details

In short, this shift toward a fully digital Aadhaar update system marks another big step in making government services citizen-friendly and efficient.
