Patiala will host the 7th NTPC Para National Archery Championship 2026 from January 30 to February 2 at the Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports (NIS), under the Indian Sports Authority. The prestigious event is being organised by the Punjab Archery Association.
More than 190 para archers from over 20 states across India are participating in this national-level competition. The championship features renowned and internationally acclaimed archers, adding significant value to the event.
Among the prominent participants are Padma Shri awardee Harvinder Singh, Arjuna Award winner Rakesh Kumar, and Arjuna Awardee and Paralympic bronze medallist Sheetal Devi, along with several other international players.
A special classification drive is underway during the championship to support emerging para archers, enabling new talent to advance to national and international platforms. Additionally, blind archery is being introduced for the first time at the national championship level, marking an important development for para archery.
Indian para archery team coach Abhilasha Chaudhary said, “This national championship is a significant platform for para archers across India. Experienced international players as well as newcomers undergoing classification are competing here. Athletes like Harvinder Singh, Sheetal Devi, and Rakesh Kumar have inspired the nation by winning medals. Events like this help discover future national and international players. This is the second time Patiala is hosting the championship, and we thank the Punjab Archery Association and NIS administration for their support.”
Sheetal Devi shared, “Having competed in many international and world championships, it is encouraging to see so many young players participating at the national level here. The weather and atmosphere are excellent. My Arjuna Award is recognition of my hard work and talent, for which I am grateful to my family and coach. I train at Punjabi University and feel proud to be part of this championship at NIS Patiala.”
Harvinder Singh commented, “The 7th Para National Archery Championship in Patiala is progressing very successfully. The increasing participation shows growing interest. When I first competed in 2016, the number of players was much smaller. Today, many young and experienced athletes from across the country are taking part. Media coverage will raise awareness and encourage more differently-abled players to join this sport and build their future.”
The organisers have appealed to print, electronic, and digital media to provide extensive coverage of this historic para archery championship from January 30 to February 2 at NIS Patiala, to enhance recognition for para sports nationwide.
