Beijing, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on Japan to swiftly destroy all chemical weapons left abandoned in China. Spokesperson Mao Ning made this request during a regular press briefing on September 7, 2026, highlighting the severe damage inflicted on the Chinese people and the environment by these weapons.
Mao’s remarks followed a visit from a delegation of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which took place from August 31 to September 5. This delegation included the organization’s Director-General, the Chair of the Executive Council, and representatives from 12 member countries.
During their visit, the delegation toured northeastern China to inspect sites where Japanese chemical weapons were abandoned and to discuss their destruction. Mao emphasized that Japan’s militaristic actions in history led to invasions that caused significant humanitarian crises and left behind chemical weapons.
The delegation’s discussions underscored the urgent need for Japan to return clean land to the Chinese people, fulfilling the sacred goal of a world free from chemical weapons as stipulated in the Chemical Weapons Convention.
