New Delhi, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : The captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur, has called for her players to sustain their momentum as they approach the knockout stage of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026. Speaking in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), she highlighted the significance of the upcoming matches.
“The next two matches are crucial for us. We need to focus on one game at a time. The next match is very important,” Harmanpreet stated. She expressed hope that the team would continue its strong performance throughout the tournament, emphasizing the importance of momentum. “We must trust ourselves, believe in our plans, and play as we did during the league stages in both batting and bowling.”
Harmanpreet noted that all departments of the team have contributed to their campaign. She pointed to key performances that have boosted the team’s confidence heading into the decisive rounds. Specifically, she praised Shafali Verma’s aggressive batting in the first match and Smriti Mandhana’s century in the second.
“Shafali’s batting in the first match and the way she was hitting the ball, along with Smriti’s century in the second match, were fantastic to witness. Our bowlers have also risen to the challenge. They just need to stick to their plans and trust themselves, applying that whenever the team needs it. Overall, everyone has performed well. Now we have the semifinals and finals ahead. I think we just need to keep working hard,” she added.
Harmanpreet’s insistence on consistent performance comes at a time when India faces the pressure of the knockout rounds. Instead of looking too far ahead, she stressed the importance of treating each match individually while maintaining the confidence built during the league stage.
The captain recently achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first cricketer, male or female, to captain 150 T20 International matches. Reflecting on her journey, she credited her teammates, the BCCI, support staff, and family for their role in her success.
“I never thought I would reach this far. I want to dedicate this achievement to my teammates, the BCCI sports staff, my family members, and my parents. They have been my greatest strength. I hope to continue working hard for the team for many more years to come,” she concluded.
