Chennai, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : In the ongoing Duleep Trophy final at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, captain Ishan Kishan delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 270 runs against South Zone. His innings has significantly bolstered East Zone’s position, as they amassed a total of 708 runs by the end of the second day, having faced 163 overs.
Winning the toss on Sunday, East Zone opted to bat first. The opening partnership set a strong tone, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhimanyu Easwaran combining for a solid 100 runs off 88 balls. Vaibhav contributed 44 runs, hitting one six and five fours before being dismissed. Easwaran added 72 runs from 86 balls, striking 11 boundaries, before the team lost Sudip Kumar at a score of 147.
From there, Ishan Kishan took charge, forming a crucial 94-run partnership with Shikhar Mohan for the fourth wicket. Shikhar scored 85 runs, hitting three sixes and nine fours. Kishan then partnered with Kumar Kushagra, adding an impressive 230 runs for the fifth wicket. Kushagra made 101 runs from 132 balls, including five sixes and eight fours, before East Zone lost their fifth wicket at 471 runs.
Kishan’s monumental innings continued as he added 140 runs with Anukul Roy, pushing the team’s score past 600. After scoring 250 runs, Kishan retired hurt, having faced 301 balls with 27 fours and seven sixes. Following his departure, Mohammad Shami and Kunain Qureshi contributed to a partnership that took the score beyond 650.
Ultimately, Kishan returned to bat again after the team lost their ninth wicket, finishing with a remarkable 270 runs off 334 balls. Tripuran Vijay claimed the wicket of Mukesh Kumar in the 163rd over, concluding East Zone’s innings.
For South Zone, Tripuran Vijay stood out with the ball, taking four wickets for 180 runs in 42 overs. Chama Milind and Shreyas Gopal each secured two wickets, while Sheikh Rashid added one to his tally.
