YSR Congress Accuses Andhra Government of Oppressing Opposition Following Arrest of Former MP

Amaravati, August 19: A leader from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has accused the ruling coalition led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh of suppressing the opposition. This allegation arose after the police arrested former MP Margani Bharat during a party event in Rajahmundry on Wednesday.

The arrest has heightened tensions in the area, prompting a strong backlash from the YSR Congress Party.

According to YSRCP, Margani Bharat and former MP Subhash Chandra Bose attended an event in the city’s 36th division, where local TDP workers were joining the YSR Congress.

A heavy police presence prevented Bharat and YSRCP leaders from proceeding with the event, creating a tense situation as party members questioned why police were interfering in peaceful political activities.

Subsequently, police detained Margani Bharat and took him to the police station.

The opposition party stated that this arrest exemplifies the misuse of police by the TDP-led coalition government to obstruct opposition political activities.

YSRCP issued a statement saying, “This incident is yet another example of the atrocities committed against political opponents under the TDP coalition government. Instead of allowing democratic political activities, the government is using police forces to intimidate YSRCP leaders and prevent them from reaching the public.”

The opposition party urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to understand that he cannot shield his governance from protests by using the police as a shield.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy held a meeting on Wednesday at the party’s central office in Tadepalli with elected representatives, leaders, and key workers from the Rajahmundry rural assembly constituency.

Reddy discussed the party’s standing in the constituency, organizational matters, public issues, initiatives to strengthen the party, and future action plans.
