Mumbai, March 4: A 22-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death following a minor altercation during the Holi festival in Wadala, Mumbai. The police reported on Wednesday that four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, and a murder case has been filed against them.
According to the Mumbai police, the incident occurred around 4:30 PM on Tuesday in the Kokri Pada area of Wadala. The accused were reportedly gathered to celebrate Holi and were drinking beer when the dispute arose.
The victim has been identified as Tushar Ujjainwala. Police stated that Ujjainwala was passing through the area with a friend when he accidentally brushed against one of the accused. This led to a verbal altercation, during which the accused allegedly hurled insults at him.
After returning home, Ujjainwala informed his older brother about the incident. He then went back with his brother to confront the accused. During this confrontation, the assailants reportedly launched a brutal attack on him. He sustained severe injuries and later succumbed to them.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Wadala police arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Subsequently, they arrested all four suspects. The police have initiated an investigation to uncover the details of the incident and the role of the accused.
Earlier, the Mumbai police had arrested three minors in a separate murder case. These minors had killed their 14-year-old friend and disposed of his body in a lake to make it appear as an accidental drowning.
Police officials revealed that Siddharth, an eighth-grade student, lived with his parents and younger brother in Tulshhet Pada. On February 22, Siddharth left home around 3 PM to play. When he did not return by evening, his family began searching for him, but there was no trace throughout the night.
During the investigation, Siddharth’s gray T-shirt and black slippers were found near Vihar Lake the next day. The fire brigade was called to search the lake, and that evening, his body was recovered.
Through nearby CCTV footage and questioning locals, police gathered crucial leads. They detained both friends for questioning, but they initially provided false statements and returned home. Based on the autopsy report, police summoned the friends again for separate questioning, during which they confessed to attacking Siddharth and implicated another friend. All three were subsequently arrested.
