Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Pune Metro Line-3 via video conference on November 3, with services starting November 4.

Pune, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the highly anticipated Pune Metro Line-3, connecting Mann to Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar, through a video conference on November 3. The event will feature Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Sunetra Ajit Pawar as special guests.
The inauguration ceremony will take place at the badminton hall of the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Mahalunge-Balewadi, starting at 10:30 AM. Official passenger services on the new metro line will commence at 6:00 AM on November 4.
Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, Commissioner of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), informed reporters that Pune Metro Line-3 spans 23.203 kilometers and is entirely elevated. Also known as the “Puneri Metro” and “Pink Line,” this route begins at Mann and traverses through Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjawadi, linking it to Pune’s key administrative and business hub, Shivajinagar.
The total estimated cost of the project, which includes land acquisition and utility shifting, is ₹8,313 crores. It was developed under the central government’s National Metro Rail Policy of 2017, utilizing a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) public-private partnership model.
The line features a total of 23 stations, with 17 of them opening to passengers on November 3. Currently, only one staircase will be operational at seven of these stations.
To ensure seamless onward travel for passengers, a “Multi-Modal Integration” system has been implemented. This initiative prioritizes the safety of road traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists, with separate bike lanes, wide sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and foot overbridges being constructed. Dr. Chaudhary noted that these measures will significantly alleviate traffic congestion, particularly in the Hinjawadi area.
The project also includes the establishment of a solar energy production capacity of 7.60 megawatts, with 6.10 megawatts at metro stations and 1.50 megawatts at the car depot. This green energy initiative will meet approximately 30 percent of the project’s total electricity needs.
All trains on Pune Metro Line-3 will be operated by nearly 100 female train pilots. Additionally, women will constitute about 50 percent of the total station staff, including station controllers, ticket personnel, and attendants. Dr. Chaudhary emphasized that this initiative reflects a strong commitment to women’s empowerment, gender equality, and increased female participation in the modern transportation sector.
