Lucknow, August 25: The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has made significant decisions to boost industrial development, expand the expressway network, and accelerate investment. A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved several key projects on Tuesday.
Among the approved initiatives is the development of an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster in Sultanpur at a cost of ₹272.25 crore, the construction of the Jhansi Link Expressway for ₹7,968.30 crore, and the extension of the Ganga Expressway to Haridwar, estimated at ₹10,761 crore.
The extension of the Ganga Expressway to Haridwar is particularly noteworthy. This project, with an estimated cost of ₹10,761 crore, will feature a six-lane greenfield expressway that can be expanded to eight lanes in the future. This will enhance connectivity between Bijnor and Haridwar, facilitating a faster and more efficient route between the two significant Kumbh cities, Prayagraj and Haridwar. The project is expected to boost religious and spiritual tourism while promoting trade, investment, and economic activities in Bijnor and surrounding areas.
The state government will bear the entire financial burden of the project, with no proposed financial participation from the central government. Following cabinet approval, the next steps, including the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), will commence.
To accelerate industrial development in Bundelkhand, the cabinet has approved the development of the Jhansi Link Expressway at a cost of ₹7,968.30 crore. This expressway will provide better road connectivity to the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA) area, the Defense Corridor, and other critical regions around Jhansi. According to the government, this will enable faster and safer travel to Bundelkhand from other parts of the state and country, fostering industrial investment, business, and job opportunities. The state government will cover the total potential expenditure, and construction work will begin soon.
In Sultanpur, an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster (IMLC) will be developed near the Purvanchal Expressway at a cost of ₹272.25 crore. The cabinet has approved the infrastructure development related to this project under the Industrial Corridor Scheme. A global bid will select the construction agency for the project. The cluster’s proximity to the Purvanchal Expressway is expected to enhance connectivity and logistics facilities for industries, promoting manufacturing activities, investment, and local employment opportunities in Sultanpur.
To further boost industrial investment, the cabinet has approved the issuance of Letters of Comfort for eight mega industrial units under the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Investment and Employment Promotion Policy-2022, with a total investment proposal of ₹2,901.97 crore. These projects include Surya Global Super Flexi Films in Gautam Buddh Nagar with ₹605.37 crore, Shalvis Specialities in Hamirpur with ₹297.30 crore, and Sound Castings in Hathras with ₹225 crore.
Additionally, investments are proposed for Vrindavan Bottlers in Barabanki at ₹436.12 crore, Juari Envien Bioenergy in Lakhimpur Kheri at ₹294.72 crore, Paswara Papers in Hathras at ₹315 crore, CRD Foods and Beverages in Mathura at ₹363.94 crore, and Mount Everest Breweries in Unnao at ₹363.52 crore.
Eligible projects under this policy will receive incentives such as net SGST and capital subsidies. The government believes these projects will expand industrial activities in the respective districts and create new direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The cabinet’s decisions clearly indicate the state government’s dual focus on enhancing connectivity through the expansion of the expressway network while simultaneously encouraging significant investments to boost industrial activities. These projects aim to simultaneously accelerate infrastructure, investment, and employment from Purvanchal to Bundelkhand and Western Uttar Pradesh.
