Punjabs Chief Minister Ensures No Sugar Shortage Amidst Supply Monitoring

Chandigarh, August 25: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated on Tuesday that there is no shortage of sugar in the state. He assured that the government is closely monitoring the stock, sale, and supply of sugar to protect the interests of the public.

During a meeting with senior officials, CM Mann directed them to ensure the adequate availability of essential commodities and to take strict action against any attempts to create artificial shortages or hoarding.

He emphasized, “Punjab already has a sufficient stock of sugar, and officials must ensure that adequate supplies are maintained at all times.” He added, “Sugar is a necessary item for every household, and there can be no compromise on its availability. Any attempts to create artificial shortages or hoarding will be dealt with firmly.”

The Chief Minister urged officials to take effective steps to dispel any panic or misunderstandings among the public regarding sugar availability.

He noted that due to adverse weather conditions, there has been a decline in sugarcane production across the country, including Punjab, during the 2025-26 period. Despite the lower yield, he reassured that there is a sufficient stock of sugar in the state, and there is no cause for concern.

CM Mann instructed officials to ensure the physical verification of sugar stocks held by mills. He also called for the registration and weekly reporting on the food stock monitoring portal, alongside the strict enforcement of stockholding limits for sugar.

Additionally, he directed officials to ensure strict implementation of stockholding limits for wholesale consumers of sugar. He stated, “The Punjab government will keep a close watch on the sale, stock, and supply of sugar in the broader public interest.”

Reiterating his government’s commitment, he said, “Every necessary step will be taken to ensure the uninterrupted availability of sugar in Punjab and to protect consumer interests.”

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ravi Bhagat, Secretary (Cooperation) Ajit Balaji Joshi, and other senior officials.
