
Lucknow, June 3: In a significant cabinet meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, several key proposals were approved, including a 50% increase in fees and allowances for government lawyers. Out of 25 proposals presented, 24 received approval, while one related to the transport department was deferred.
The cabinet also sanctioned projects under development authorities that were approved by district panchayats before March 31, 2026. These projects will now be regulated by the development authorities, which will also approve future plans.
The expansion of authorities in the state has led to numerous projects that had previously received district panchayat approval. This decision will regularize those projects. The cabinet has greenlit an increase in remuneration and allowances for government lawyers representing the state in courts, including the High Court and Supreme Court.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna announced that under the new structure, monthly retainers for government lawyers in district courts will rise from ₹9,000 to ₹14,000, while per hearing fees will increase from ₹1,650 to ₹2,500. Additionally, the retainer for Additional District Government Advocates will increase from ₹7,200 to ₹11,000, and per hearing fees will go up from ₹1,500 to ₹2,300. The state’s Advocate General will see a rise in monthly retainer from ₹75,000 to ₹1.25 lakh, and per hearing fees will increase from ₹40,000 to ₹60,000.
Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma announced the approval for the operation of 1,725 new electric buses in 18 major cities, including 17 municipal corporations and Noida, under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model. Air-conditioned electric buses will operate in large cities, with services extending to the Noida International Airport in Jewar. The government believes this initiative will strengthen public transport and reduce pollution.
Cabinet Minister Manoj Pandey revealed that the cabinet has also approved a minimum support price of ₹2,400 per quintal for maize, with government procurement scheduled from June 5 to July 31. Various districts will establish procurement centers to ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce.
Additionally, a crucial proposal related to prison administration was approved. The cabinet sanctioned a new policy for compensation payments in cases of inmate deaths. If a prisoner dies during a fight, ₹5 lakh will be compensated; ₹5 lakh will also be paid for deaths due to negligence by doctors or prison administration, while ₹3 lakh will be given for suicides.
Furthermore, the cabinet has approved the construction of new jails in five districts to address overcrowding issues. A proposal for land allocation for a new registry office in Mohanlalganj was also approved.
