Lucknow, May 18: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath discussed the changing face of Uttar Pradesh on Monday. He highlighted that previous governments associated the state with violence and crime, while today it is recognized for advancements like the BrahMos missile, defense corridors, expressways, international airports, and as a destination for investment. During his address, he offered advice and warnings regarding the issue of prayers conducted on roads.
He stated that due to improved law and order, infrastructure, and governance, Uttar Pradesh has risen from being one of the bottom two states to one of the top two. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards chaos and disorder, warning that anyone harassing women on the streets would face severe consequences.
On the topic of prayers on roads, he made it clear that while people are free to pray, it must be done in designated areas and not on the streets. He expressed that sensationalism and fake news in journalism contribute to societal chaos, while responsible journalism strengthens democracy.
CM Yogi spoke at an event where he acknowledged the contributions of historical figures in Hindi journalism. He noted that during the 1975 emergency, prominent editors and reporters successfully defended democracy. He stressed the media’s vital role alongside the legislative, judicial, and executive branches, while also cautioning against the dangers of deep-fake and fake news.
Yogi Adityanath asserted that he does not want a return to riots or curfews in Uttar Pradesh. He stated that no one is allowed to create chaos. When asked if prayers occur on the streets, he firmly denied it, insisting that roads are meant for travel, not for creating disturbances. He urged people to pray in designated areas and to respect the law.
He warned that if people do not comply peacefully, the government would take necessary actions. He recounted instances in Bareilly where the government’s authority was demonstrated.
The Chief Minister criticized trade unions, stating they often create disturbances without contributing positively to society. He highlighted that union leaders often exploit workers while enriching themselves.
Reflecting on his past, Yogi mentioned that nine years ago, he did not understand why he was sent to Uttar Pradesh, as he was a Member of Parliament. However, he was aware of the state’s issues, including frequent riots and a parallel mafia system operating in every district. He noted that after forming the government, they established the rule of law, ensuring safety for women and improving infrastructure.
Today, he promised that anyone who harasses women would face dire consequences akin to those faced by mythological figures like Ravana and Duryodhana.
