Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Indias Fastest to Two ODI Centuries

Chennai, June 20: Opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal made headlines on Saturday during the third ODI against Afghanistan. Partnering with Rohit Sharma, he scored an impressive 170 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal remained unbeaten at 110 runs off 86 balls, hitting 17 boundaries. This marked his second century in just six ODI matches, making him the fastest Indian to achieve this milestone.

The 24-year-old surpassed Shikhar Dhawan, who reached his second ODI century in his seventh innings. Kedar Jadhav follows in third place with nine innings. Notably, Virat Kohli accomplished this feat in his 17th innings, while Shubman Gill needed 18 innings for his second century.

After restricting Afghanistan to 218 runs in 44.2 overs, India chased down the target in just 28.4 overs. Following the victory, Jaiswal expressed his determination to “keep playing and stay till the end.”

In a post-match interview, he shared, “I got some runs during the power play, so I just wanted to keep playing and stay focused. I really enjoyed the game.”

Reflecting on his second century in three ODIs, Jaiswal stated, “I focus on my process, which is within my control. I try to work as hard as I can, and the support staff is always there for me.”

Discussing his ability to convert a good start into a century, he remarked, “I’ve been fortunate, so when I get a good start, I try to convert it into a hundred. I’ve learned in sports and cricket that when it’s your day, you should make the most of it. I was determined today to maintain my focus and keep rotating the strike. If I settle in, I can take full advantage.”
