Women Turn Out in Large Numbers at Polling Stations in Assam, First-Time Voters Demand Development

Dispur, April 9: Voting is underway in Assam for the assembly elections, and there is a noticeable enthusiasm among voters since morning. Scenes from various regions depict a vibrant celebration of democracy.

In Jalukbari, a young first-time voter expressed, “We want development.” Meanwhile, a voter in Kamrup shared, “There are two candidates here, one from BJP and one from Congress. Both are good.” Another voter stated, “We will vote for whoever does good work.”

At the Pawai LP School in Vishwanath, a booth-level officer (BLO) reported that he arrived early to facilitate the voting process. In Hojai, voters began queuing from 5 AM, with a significant number of women among them.

In Silchar, preparations at the Radhamadhav Girls’ School showcased the excitement before voting. First-time voters and women shared their experiences.

After casting her vote in Dhemaji, BJP candidate Ranaj Pegu remarked, “Today is a very sacred day. Despite bad weather, people have come out to vote. I have cast my vote too. I urge everyone to exercise their voting rights.”

In Dibrugarh, a first-time voter expressed, “This is my first assembly election, and it feels great to vote.”

In Nagaon, MP Pradyut Bordoloi stated after voting, “I have just cast my vote. When I decided to file my nomination as a BJP candidate from Dispur, I couldn’t transfer my vote.” He voted at the North Section polling station of Marikalong High School.

Voting in Assam continues in a peaceful and enthusiastic atmosphere, with people from all walks of life actively participating in this grand festival of democracy.
